How to Make a Festive Branch
Last year my brilliant friend Alex Whitmore spent the morning with Jess and I teaching us some floristry basics. Not only did she help us make a beautiful Christmas wreath but also one of these, a more modern version centred around a single branch.
You will need:
a nice shaped, sturdy branch
lots of assorted dried foliage and grasses, try seedheads, mosses, olive leaves, berries or anything that will last well inside
ribbon for hanging
Gather all your foliage together. Alex chose different lengths and textures but kept the colours beautifully tonal.
Have a play with your branch and decide how it will hang best.
Gather your foliage together and pull together a balanced bunch. Choose only the strongest elements to face upwards – weaker stems may bow before long if the room is warm.
Tie firmly with wire and add in little posies of berries or pine cones to finish.
Hang on a plain wall for a beautiful centre piece.
