New York, New York
A month or so ago I spent four jam-packed days in NYC launching my third book The Modern Cook’s Year in the US. It was an incredible few days of cooking, parties and dinners. I love the energy of New York, it really does feel like anything is possible in that city. There is an acceptance of drive and ambition there. As a self-depreciating Brit I find the ease with which New Yorkers talk about their achievements and promote what they do very liberating.
I know I am guilty of playing down my successes and being the last person to shout about what I have achieved. I think it can actually be quite damaging to always be looking to the next thing and not relishing in what has got us here. I think it’s becoming more and more important to look back, to pat ourselves on the back for what we have done well and allow that to be the fuel in our fire to move forward.
In the crazy busy world that we all live in, little time is taken for celebrating and blowing our own trumpets. So this week I am being a little more New York and sharing with you some of the incredible press (New York Times, The Washington Post), some of the amazing places I visited (Martha Stewart, Bon Appetit, Food 52) and some favourite spots in NYC. Five favourites from the trip:
Marlow and sons – OG Williamsburg restaurant that has recently brought a Japanese vibe to their menu. Incredible natural wines.
The Hoxton Hotel – I’ve often stayed in Manhattan but this was a great base in Williamsburg for this trip. Perfectly formed rooms, amazing staff, great coffee and easy food for anytime of day.
Via Carota – incredible relaxed neighbourhood Italian in the West village. Still dreaming of their pasta.
Regular Visitors – a great little shop in Brooklyn amazingly curated selection of kitchen, homewares Jewellery and great coffee too.
Miss Adas – a favourite Middle Eastern place. Amazing for vegetarians and the warmest people ever.
