Favourite Birthday Cakes
To me, birthdays are a reminder that a really good piece of cake is something to eat, enjoy and treasure. Here are a handful of my favourites:
Almond cake with white chocolate tahini ganache (Carrot + Crumb)
I rarely use white chocolate – but blending with tahini turns it into something incredible. A clever cake.

Buttermilk glazed birthday cake (101 cookbooks)
Heidi’s absolutely wonderful almond cake is finished with a slick of buttermilk icing that I dream of.

Apple and cinnamon children’s cake (Georgie Hayden)
For her daughter’s first birthday, Georgie made a very impressive cake that contained no sugar, processed or otherwise. There’s the option of a maple icing, but the cake is still a treat without it.

Elderflower and pistachio cake
This was the very first recipe I ever shared on my blog, and it’s still an absolute favourite. Instead of flour I use pistachios and polenta, which gives the cake a dense baklava feeling.

Devil’s food cake (Violet bakery – image by 101 cookbooks)
A cake fit for royalty.

Rhubarb, rose and almond cake with white chocolate swiss meringue buttercream (Butter + Brioche)
Show me a more beautiful cake? This one makes the most of seasonal rhubarb.

Hi Anna, this is the first newsletter that I have received from you as I’ve only just joined up. Thank you, I am really enjoying it. A question on the devil’s food cake recipe- I can’t seem to find it, is the link working. Thanks again!
